Baby Skin Care during summer

Everyone loves the sunny weather; there are so many fun things to do outside in the summer time. But this is also a time where it is of utmost importance to take measures to ensure your baby skin is taken care of appropriately. The following tips will enable you to enjoy the summer and take care of your baby’s delicate skin.

Dress your baby correctly:
During the summer heat, dress up your baby in light weight clothes, so he/she does not overheat yet at the same time try to cover up as much of the skin as possible. It is best to use natural fibered clothes and avoid synthetic fabrics so as to avoid prickly heat rash. Your baby’s scalp is very sensitive, put on a light hat, with a wide brim, this will keep baby cool & protected in the summer heat.

Protection from sunburn:
Your baby’s skin is very delicate and thin, which means babies exposed to the sun can get sunburned very easily, which is painful & uncomfortable. To protect your baby, apply sun protection cream on your baby’s face & exposed body parts– this is preferred for babies above 6 months of age. In the event of sunburn, you can spray rose water or a damp cloth on your baby’s skin every 2-4 hours. Apply Aloe Vera gel or a light moisturizer. If the burn is severe or doesn’t soothe in a day or two, consult a doctor.

Heat rash:
Heat rash also referred to as prickly heat rash, is a common summer skin problem which results in tiny red bumps on the face, neck and body. Heat rash tends to be really itchy and can result in a very cranky and uncomfortable baby. Bathe your baby with a mild body wash. Apply Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin, avoid putting lotion as the rash is a result of blocked sweat pores and a lotion will trap the skins moisture resulting in more rashes. Prickly heat rash should clear within 2-4 days.

Stay indoors during peak hours:
Protect your baby’s skin from the effects of the summer sun by avoiding the outdoors during peak heat hours. They are usually between 10 am to 5 pm. If you need to venture out, keep your baby properly hydrated.

Diaper Rash:
Diaper rash is a common skin problem for babies, but it is especially a big concern during the summer months. Use of disposable diapers increases the frequency of the rash as these keep the baby hotter. Use cotton diapers if possible at home. Also keep baby’s bottom as clean and dry as possible. Diaper rash creams are available in the market and can assist in clearing up the rash. Talcum powder is the same as baby powder and this is one of the products we have in our portfolio.

Time spent with you precious babies is very valuable. It will pass with the blink of an eye; make your adventures special by keeping in mind some simple tips for the summer months. And enjoy the sunshine!
